We all have interests and hobbies, things that keep us entertained, things make us happy. I’m a sports fan and I like to watch various sports, such as football, basketball, and baseball, when I get the chance. I’m not obsessed with keeping my TV on and watching every game. I have my favorite teams and my favorite sports, so I narrow my watching down to those so that I don’t turn my wife into a sports widow. That’s one way that I’ve made my marriage last for over 40 years!
As much as I love my teams, that is not what matters most to me. It’s a good thing, because all of my teams are letting me down this year. This weekend was especially painful! If my joy was dependent upon that, I would be a very depressed and angry person right now! There will be good seasons and bad seasons for sports teams, but there is one constant in my life that will always bring me joy, peace, comfort, and excitement.
God never changes and he never fails me. He is the same all day and every day. He doesn’t change with the weather or when the Cowboys are winning or losing. He is on the throne whether a Republican or Democrat is President of the United States. He loves me and cares for me whether I am walking with him or hiding from him. His Word was true when it was written and it is true today, no matter what society or any group or individual opines. I am who he says I am no matter what I choose to believe or what anyone else tells me.
I have many wants, desires, and things that please me and give me joy and happiness. If you take some of those away from me, I will be angry and unhappy for a while, but I will eventually get over it. The one thing that you could never take away from me is my faith in God and my love for my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Always put him first and let him be your greatest treasure and desire. He is what matters most!
