Sometimes I get halfway through a cup of coffee at work and get so busy that I forget about it for a few minutes. It’s always a rude awakening to reach for my cup and take a big gulp of lukewarm coffee. I immediately spew it back into the cup and head back to the pot for a fresh cup of hot coffee.
In the book of Revelation, John describes the Laodicean church as a lukewarm church because they were neither hot nor cold. The Lord wished they were either one or the other, but since they were lukewarm, he would spit them out of his mouth. They were indifferent to God, like many of us are today.
This reminds me of my walk with God. Some days I’m like hot water, on fire for God and zealous to carry out his will and stay on the path. Other days I’m like cold water, taking my eyes off him and straying off the path. Then there are the times when I’m more indifferent, going through the motions of following God, but not giving him my full attention. This is lukewarm Christianity. I need to be on fire for God and live each moment in his will. Turn up the heat!
Revelation 3:19 (NLT) - “I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be diligent and turn from your indifference.”
