Last night I got home from a meeting with group leaders from our church and I was going through my routine of getting ready for bed and setting things up for the next morning. I was going through the day’s events in my head and thinking about what lay ahead for the next one. It had been a wonderful Saturday, capped off by an evening of fellowship and a little church business. That’s when I saw it and stopped dead in my tracks!
Sitting on the tray of my Keurig machine was my coffee cup, still full of coffee! At this point, it was old, cold coffee that had been sitting there all day since about 6:30 in the morning. I had prepared it as part of my normal Saturday routine, which of course, is different than my workday morning routine. Wasted coffee! Please, no one cast any stones. I know some of you would have thrown it in the microwave and gone for it, but it was almost midnight when I discovered it and I was heading for bed. I do have my standards, former Marine or not! I waited until this morning to heat it up… just kidding.
This morning, as I’m sitting here with my nice, fresh cup of coffee, writing out this blog, I think about how God daily serves us up a “nice, hot cup” of his blessings and it’s sitting right there for us. Most of the time, we drink from it and treat it is as a nice routine as we go about our day without giving it a second thought. Sometimes we even walk on by and leave it behind because we are rushing through our day. It’s when we slow down and sit for a while, take a little sip, and savor it slowly and thank the One who provided it, that we really benefit from his blessings.
