Don't Spoil Your Dinner!

I remember so many times being hungry before dinner and wanting to eat dessert before dinner was ready. My mother would utter those dreaded words, “It will spoil your dinner!” Depending on what we were having for dinner, sometimes I would prefer the dessert over the dinner, but you can’t get away with that with your mother. She knows that dinner is better for you and that you should have it first. If you are full of dessert, you will not eat a good dinner and receive proper nourishment and you will no longer be hungry for dinner.

What about our relationship with Christ? If we’re not hungry for Christ, we’re probably too full of ourselves. We have been focused on feeding ourselves too much of the sweet things in life and not getting the proper nourishment that comes from a steady diet of time and relationship with him. We are not growing and maturing in our faith if we are not maintaining our spiritual health. Don’t spoil your dinner! Sit at the table with Christ and fellowship with him.

Matthew 5:6 (MSG) - “You’re blessed when you’ve worked up a good appetite for God. He’s food and drink in the best meal you’ll ever eat.”
