Well the first of the summer months is upon us and 2019 is almost half over already! One of my friends loves to joke, “As one frog said to the other, time’s fun when you’re having flies.” Well, I hope you’re having fun, not flies. But time is definitely flying! Many things can make the time go by fast, getting older being the biggest factor. I’m sure kids hate hearing older people tell them that the older you get, the faster time goes by.
When you are having fun doing something, it certainly makes the time go faster. I just think back to some of my college classes. History was my minor and I had one professor that made it very interesting and made history come to life as he related the past to us during his lectures. That class went by so fast that we were disappointed when it was over. By comparison, a different professor was a terrible teacher and he put us to sleep with his lectures. That class, even though it was the same length of time, seemed to drag on for hours. We watched the clock tick slowly by as he droned on and on. We couldn’t wait to get out of there.
God intends for our Christian life to be exciting and life-giving as well. We should look forward to hearing our pastor bring a fresh message to us and eager to apply it to our lives that week. Reading the Bible should be an adventure into the heart of God and refreshing to our souls as we dig deeper into it each and every day. Approach it with the expectation that you will get something out of it. Use that time to grow closer to God. His Word is not boring and tedious. Get excited listening to and reading God’s Word. Have fun in the sun and have even more fun with the Son!
Psalms 70:4 (NLT) - But may all who search for you be filled with joy and gladness in you. May those who love your salvation repeatedly shout, “God is great!”
