Well, it’s the Father Lottery, but my brothers and I won it! Today is our father’s 94th birthday and he is still going strong. Dad, for those of you that are blessed to know him, is one of those men that characters in movies, television shows, and books should be built around. He has a strength of character and moral integrity that outshines anyone that I have ever known. He’s not perfect… no one is… but he’s as close as they come. I’ll measure him up against anyone.
Dad is a country-loving, God-fearing, family-first, World War II veteran, that perks up and loves to tell stories about our mom, his children, grandchildren, and all those in the family he can think to name because there are so many now. He may be a quiet man, but he has so much wisdom and gives much sought-after advice to those that seek it. I love his sense of humor and his laugh, which is so easy to draw out from him.
I see my Heavenly Father in my dad and that is so much a part of why I have such a powerful relationship with both. I really have won the lottery! Happy 94th birthday, Dad! I love you with everything that is within me!
Ephesians 6:2-3 (NLT) - “Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise: If you honor your father and mother, “things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth.”
