Talking With Dad

Saturday morning is the time I set aside to talk with my father. We call at other times as well, but we expect to talk every Saturday morning. It’s kind of our thing. I don’t know how that started, actually, but it did, and we both love it and look forward to it.

We’ve done it for so long now that it has become a routine and we have an internal clock that reminds us every week. I love our chats, even when there’s nothing specific to talk about. We always end up laughing about something, usually something my oldest brother said.

Before my mother passed, she usually did most of the talking, instead of my father, when I called. I’m fine with that, because I miss hearing her voice, but now I get to hear his. The Lord willing, I will soon be able to spend more face-to-face time with him.

Never take family for granted and give honor to your parents every chance you get, even after they’re gone. Raise your children to do the same and encourage them to teach their children also. Give honor where honor is due!
