What's Next?

The Super Bowl is over, marking the end of another National Football League (NFL) season. Some people are thrilled, some are sad, and some (still) don’t care. Coaches will be hired and fired, players will get new contracts, some will be traded, some will be let go, and some will go to Disney World. The National Basketball Association (NBA) rolls on through its season and Major League Baseball (MLB) will begin before you know it! For sports fans, there is a never-ending stream of games to watch, teams and players to root for, and championships to long for.

You may be fortunate to have a team at the top right now, but eventually another will rise to take their place. Your favorite stars will retire, get traded to a team that you don’t like, or play past their prime as you watch their skills decline. I have gone through many emotional highs and lows with my favorite sports teams and players over the years. It took a long time and a lot of maturing for me to realize that I shouldn’t invest so much emotion and heart into my love of sports. Now, although I still get excited and emotional, I keep my stress and anxiety levels in check and remind myself that all seasons come to an end and new ones begin.

Jesus is easy to get excited about and he never changes! He is always the Champion and King! If all else fails, he is still there. His kingdom never ends and he calls us to be with him for eternity. He will never leave us or forsake us. We should rejoice and praise him louder and more enthusiastically than any sports team! He truly is the only one worthy of our praise.

Psalms 145:3 (NLT) - “Great is the LORD! He is most worthy of praise! No one can measure his greatness.”
