Take a pause and think before you press the enter key on your computer. Measure twice, cut once. Look before you leap. Engage your brain before you open your mouth. All of these are good lessons I’ve learned the hard way!
I’m able to work from home during this pandemic, in large part, because I have remote access to my computer at work. It’s the host computer and my home computer is the client computer. The program that allows me access is loaded to the host computer and must stay online at all times. I logon to it from my client computer each day and log off at the end of the work day. It’s amazing and I don’t have to commute!
Well, yesterday I logged off, but I logged off the access program on the host computer! Remote connection is lost and now I have to drive in and log back in. I knew the moment I hit the enter key that I had made a mistake, but it was too late.
Our words are that way, too. We can often say things that we don’t mean to say, or shouldn’t say, when we blurt them out without thinking first. We need to be aware of the consequences of what we say. We can build up or destroy with our tongues. God wants us to love and encourage one another. Think about that before you say those words, send that text, or post on social media. Be mindful of what you’re doing when you hit that enter key!
James 3:2 (NLT) - “Indeed, we all make many mistakes. For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way.”
