Doing My Level Best

There are so many levels you must monitor as you get older… things like your blood pressure and heart rate, cholesterol (the good and the bad), testosterone, iron, different vitamins, etc. The list seems to go on and on. A few years ago, I didn’t take any prescription medications or vitamin supplements and now I feel as though I have my own pharmacy.

Now that I’m in my sixties, a casual, “Hey, Doc I have this little issue…” results in bloodwork, x-rays, MRI’s, and/or brain scans. So far, no brain has been discovered. There is always an uncomfortable (for me) discussion about needing to lose some weight by eating healthier and exercising more, an adjustment in my meds, and continuing to monitor all of the aforementioned levels.

Of course, the doctor is right. The other motivating factor is that I want to live a long, healthy life so that I can enjoy my children and grandchildren. Added to that, God calls us to take care of ourselves. Although our spiritual health is our number one priority, our physical health is vital as well. Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, so treat it with the respect it deserves. As for me, I’m doing my level best!

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NLT) - “Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.”
