Have you ever used a sieve to separate the fine from the coarse? You place the substance into the sieve, shake it until the finer parts sift through the screen, providing you with only the parts you desire. Anything else gets tossed out.
Prior to the pandemic, we have been doing a lot of sifting to determine what we need to keep for whenever we move. It’s expensive to move and we will be downsizing, so we need to do a lot of sifting. That requires us to make a lot of hard decisions on what to keep, what to sell, what to give away, and what to throw out. Some things are easier than others.
The pandemic has caused me to do a lot of spiritual sifting as well. That’s a good thing… and it’s healthy! God has shown me a lot of baggage that I’ve been carrying around that I need to get rid of. Just like with our household items, some things are easier than others. I have easily tossed out some things, but other things are hard. Because of some things that I have been going through during this time, I have realized what is important and what is not. I’m in the process of realigning my priorities… and it’s fun. What about you? How’s your sifting going?
1 Corinthians 15:3 (NLT) - “I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said.”
