Impressions vs Love

Do you try to impress people, or just love them? There is a big difference in the impact you leave on someone’s life when you make attempts to impress them over when you simply love them. Loving requires a deeper commitment and effort. It shows that you are sincere and genuine in your relationship.

Making an impression is more about me and less about you. It says that I want you to appreciate what I am doing for you in order to make me feel better about myself. Motives are different when you are seeking to make an impression on someone. You’ve certainly heard it said that first impressions are lasting impressions, so we often strive to be a better version of ourselves just to make that good first impression, which could lead to a false one.

The Bible tells us to love one another. In doing so, we will leave others with a wonderful impression without any extra effort. Love conquers so many things and even wins over enemies in a lot of circumstances. Remember how much God loved us, by giving us the greatest gift of all. When he tells you to love your neighbor as yourself, that means that you should also love yourself. Now, go love your neighbor and don’t worry about other people’s opinions or impressions!

Luke 10:27 (NLT) - The man answered, “You must love the LORD your God with all your heart , all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind. And love your neighbor as yourself.”
