Sleep in Peace

I am certain that you have woken up in the middle of the night after a bad dream. I know that I have on numerous occasions through the years. I am not talking about weird dreams, I have a lot of those. I am talking about bad dreams where I wake up and something dreadful has happened or was about to happen to a friend or loved one. That is when my best prayers kick in and I get serious about praying.

I pray immediately for that person and rebuke the situation and the fear that arises within me over potential harm coming to that loved one. I ask God for a return to peaceful sleep and sweet dreams to replace the one I just had. Almost without exception, I am able to calm down and fall right back into a blissful night’s sleep. My prayers are earnest and to the point. I have no idea if the dream is just a dream caused by eating too much pizza or if God is calling me to pray for that individual in that moment.

God calls for us to pray, not just a bedtime prayer or a blessing over our meal, but throughout the day and even in the middle of the night. Prayer is our direct communication with him. He hears us, speaks to us, and answers our prayers. Don’t hesitate to call out to him when you are happy or sad, bold or afraid, or blessed or in need. Lift up your heart to God and give it all to him!

Psalms 4:8 (NLT) - In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O Lord, will keep me safe.
