Part of the growing and maturing process when we go from our childhood, through our teenage years, and on into adulthood is putting aside our childish ways. Often during our teen and young adult years we make some bad lifestyle choices and discover that we need to turn over a new leaf and make a course correction in our life.
Sometimes I look back at my old self and shake my head and wonder how I survived those years. I was a pretty good kid but I did some stupid stuff on occasion. I am so thankful that we didn’t have cellphone videos back in my day! Come to think of it, I still make mistakes because I am human and still wearing this “earth suit” until Jesus comes or takes me home.
The Bible tells me that my old self was crucified with Christ. That means that I am a new self with Christ living in me! Will I still make mistakes and sin? Of course I will, but he has made provision for that. I earnestly confess them to him, repent, and he forgives me. And unlike people, God forgets my sins. So put away your old self and put on your new self!
Galatians 2:20 (NLT) - My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
