Most crimes are committed under the cover of darkness. Evil people do wicked, illegal, and sinful things either in the dark, behind a mask, or surreptitiously through technology in order to avoid getting caught. It is risky, foolish, and potentially suicidal to attempt a criminal act in broad daylight or without cover or disguise. The successful commission of a crime often leads to repeat offenses.
During my law enforcement career I often spent my days in the office catching up on paperwork and other administrative things. Evenings were spent in the field conducting surveillances and gathering intelligence on the bad guys. That is when they were out breaking laws. We made early morning arrests because they would be exhausted and asleep, which made it much safer for us.
Do you have secret sins that you hide from others? Are you hiding in the darkness in hopes of not being discovered? Maybe you step into the light at church on Sunday morning and tell yourself that you’re good and then you step back into the darkness the next week. We all sin (I know I do) and God gave us a way to receive forgiveness for those sins. Come to the light and expose yourself to God’s love and mercy, and then ask for and receive his forgiveness. Do the right thing and continually walk in the light for others to see!
John 3:20-21 (NLT) - All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.
