There are so many brand name products out there that we need or use. I remember when generic brands began to be introduced. I was leery of steering away from the brands that I trusted and was familiar with, but the price differential made it tempting. The ingredients were the same and the label said that it was a suitable substitute.
It took me a few years, but I finally saw the light and now I regularly seek out the less expensive generic brands when I shop for food, medicine, etc. It amazes me that the brand names are still out there and I wonder why people choose to purchase them over the generics. I suppose it is because we are creatures of habit and default to the familiar when it comes to our choices.
There is one particular substitute that I want to talk about. This substitute is way more than suitable! I am talking about Jesus. Today is Good Friday and it is the day we remember his sacrifice on the cross for our sins. Jesus wasn’t a suitable substitute, he was the only substitute for us. Redemption for sin was accomplished by the sacrifice of a lamb (specifics of sacrifices are in the Old Testament). Jesus was the substitute for the lamb and was sacrificed once for all. One of his names is the Lamb of God. His blood was shed for you. Come to the Lamb today!
1 Peter 3:18 (NLT) - Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners to bring you safely home to God. He suffered physical death, but he was raised to life in the Spirit.
