What Do You Think About?

Where do your thoughts take you in your alone or quiet time? Maybe you feel like you don’t have time to just sit and think. I have a lot more time now that I’m retired. When I was a child those were the moments that I occasionally came up with bad ideas that got me into trouble! Now I try to use that time to pray and talk to God or to simply just be still and listen.

I really have to focus my thoughts if I want to use my quiet time wisely, otherwise my mind tends to wander aimlessly all over the place. Sometimes my thoughts stray from whatever I’m working on to other places. That’s not as bad now that I’m retired. That wasn’t a good thing while I was working!

When I allow the Holy Spirit to control and influence my thoughts, feelings, and actions, the results will be pleasing to God. Thoughts from my old sinful nature can have the opposite effect and be displeasing to God. I am working diligently to please Him. What do you think about?

Romans 8:5 (NLT) - “Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit.”
