I have a very close friend that has the most compassionate heart for stray dogs. She will go out of her way to find shelter for them including taking some into her own home. She also has compassion for stray people but it’s her love for dogs that drew me to this subject.
If we could all have that same compassion for lost, destitute, desperate, and lonely people that my friend has for dogs I wonder if we could put a huge dent in the homeless crisis. I am not naive enough to believe we will eradicate homelessness before the Lord returns but it breaks my heart that the church wide body of Christ hasn’t made a noticeable impact in this area.
I know there are many churches, organizations, and even individuals that do reach out to provide food, shelter, and support for the homeless. I pray that the Lord blesses and grows their ministries and that churches are filled with new souls saved and lives changed for Him. May all our hearts be filled with compassion for the lost whether they live in homes or are homeless. We have all been stray people at some point in our lives.
Deuteronomy 15:4 (NLT) - “There should be no poor among you, for the Lord your God will greatly bless you in the land he is giving you as a special possession.”
