Celebrate Our Flag

Today is Flag Day, which commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States. That happened on June 14, 1777 by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation officially establishing June 14 as Flag Day.

The flag has 13 stripes that represent the original 13 colonies. The stars represent the number of states, so today’s flag has 50 stars. “Old Glory” is worthy of our respect and should never touch the ground or become soiled. It should be flown only between sunrise and sunset unless it is properly illuminated. It should never ever be burned or stepped on!

This grand old flag is the emblem of the country that I love and have served for so long. I don’t take it lightly when it gets disrespected. Neither does God take it lightly when we do not give the honor and respect that is due to Him. We may think it is okay to use His name in vain and get away with violating His commands. Come to the Lord and celebrate His goodness and mercy. Love, respect, and obey Him so that it will go well with you.

Psalms 29:2 (NLT) - “Honor the Lord for the glory of his name. Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.”
