My goal is to walk a minimum of two miles a day at least five days per week. I usually wave at every car that passes whether I know the driver or not. So why do I wave? Southerners know the answer. Southerners wave. It’s what we do!
When we lived in California people would occasionally wave at you on the freeway but it was mostly with their middle finger. One of my California friends once commented that she was freaked out by everyone waving at her on one of her visits to the south. “Those people are weird!” she said. I love that southern folks wave as a form of greeting and say “howdy” or ask how you’re doing when they walk past you on the sidewalk.
A smile or a wave could make a big difference in someone’s day. God wants us to lift one another up and be a light to the world. All y’all non-southerners take note and don’t be afraid to give a wave or friendly greeting as you cross paths with others.
