Remember Dudley Do-Right from the Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoon? He mostly saved the day either by sheer luck or the competence of his horse, but nevertheless, his name became synonymous with someone who is always trying to do the right thing. Today, we call a person like that a “do-gooder” or a “goody two-shoes” or a “Dudley Do-Right”.
As a child or a young person, that can be taken as an insult or hurtful. The one who calls another by those names usually says it to make fun of the other person and humiliate them in front of others. Children are good at this and it can often lead to causing a child to want to break the rules just to fit in or not be called Dudley Do-Right.
The truth is, it is honorable to do the right thing. The Word tells us that the Lord’s eyes rest on the godly and his heart responds to their prayers. He turns his back on those who are evil. Do you want to be one who does what is good and right or do you want to make fun of those who do? Do you want God to watch over you or turn his back on you?
1 Peter 3:12 (NLT) - “The eyes of the LORD watch over those who do right, and his ears are open to their prayers. But the LORD turns his face against those who do evil.”
