Hidden Things

As we have been going about preparing two different homes for selling, we have been working very hard at repairing and upgrading all of the obvious things that need our attention. We have done a pretty good job at beautifying and modernizing them for the market. We have also discovered, through closer and deeper inspection, that some of the less obvious and hidden things, needed to be exposed and cleaned out and repaired or replaced.

It is the hidden things that can cause the biggest problems in our lives. Look at all the big scandals that hit the news, whether it’s in politics, schools, or even in churches. Individuals or organizations may look bright and flawless on the outside, while harboring wickedness and corruption on the inside. It is not until a light is shined on the darkness that it gets exposed.

That is why it is important that we, as Christians, have close friends that hold us accountable. These friends shine a light into every corner of our lives to expose any darkness that tries to hide inside us. In other words, be open and transparent to someone you can trust. If you have an area of weakness, find another person that you can trust to share that weakness with so that he or she can check up on you and keep you from stumbling in the dark.

Whatever temptations or trials you face, you are not alone. There are others out there who either have faced whatever you are facing, or are still facing it. Together you can walk in strength and overcome anything, with Christ as your center!

Proverbs 27:17 (NLT) - “As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.”
