There are days when my heart is on fire and I’m so emotional about my relationship with God that my joy seems to bubble over. Then there are other days when I’m not feeling it and I seem to struggle with, not my relationship, but expressing my love and joy towards my Heavenly Father. Praise and prayer do not come as easily and getting into his Word is harder as well.
That is when I have to press in beyond the feelings. It actually becomes a more honest prayer with God as I admit my feelings, frustrations, and shortcomings to him. It gets real during those times and I actually draw closer to him, even if my day continues on an emotional low. It is almost always followed by a remarkably awesome next day.
Deep, mature love for God, just as in marriage, comes when you go beyond the feelings and the relationship is built on years of quality time spent together. I know that God is always up and he lifts me up when I am down. I praise him for the good days and praise him in the midst of the bad. He is always there for me! It is the same for you, so press on… beyond the feelings!
Ephesians 3:17 (NLT) - “Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.”
