Celebration of Birth

Wow! I’ve had a lot of birthdays… and so many wonderful people wishing me a happy birthday today. I have cramps in my wrists and fingers from trying to reply to all of the many Facebook posts and text messages I’ve received today. It’s heartwarming that so many people took a moment to say happy birthday. Of course, not so many people would know each others’ birthdays if Facebook didn’t announce it. So, depending on your perspective, that is a nice feature.

I remember so many birthdays, as a child, were filled with the anticipation of parties and gifts and being the center of attention on my special day. For quite a few years now, it’s really just another day. Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice and it’s appropriate to be given birthday greetings and well-wishes. A shared meal with family or a few close friends is always a nice touch.

The most special birth to celebrate comes at Christmas time, but we should celebrate him all year long! Jesus is the one we should always celebrate each and every day. Well, today is my birthday and I’m thankful God blessed me with life and health. I’ve spoken to my wife (who is out of town) and my family (via phone or message) and many of my friends. I think I will treat myself to a special dinner. After all, it is my birthday!

Luke 1:31 (NLT) - “You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus.”
