If you have experienced the marvelous transformation that takes place when you give your life to Jesus, then you know the thrill of leaving your sinful life behind you and walking in the new life that he has for you. You have been set free from the sins that entrapped you and destined you for eternal separation from God. Now you are a new creation and a child of the living God!
You know the way to righteousness and holy living, so why would you go back into the sins that you were living in before you were saved? It would be better if you had never known the way, because you would be worse off than before since you would now be rejecting the new life he had given you.
This is what happens to many who do not let their roots grow deep into the fertile soil of God’s Word and fellowship with his people. Your relationship with Jesus has to go deeper than your initial salvation experience. It takes an investment of time and effort, just as in any relationship, to grow your love beyond the surface and your emotions. It takes communication through prayer and time spent in his presence.
Stay focused and committed to God. Don’t go back to your old life and the ways of the world. Dig deeper into his Word and spend time with the Father. If you have wandered away, then return to him. He is waiting with open arms!
2 Peter 2:20-21 (NLT) - “And when people escape from the wickedness of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and then get tangled up and enslaved by sin again, they are worse off than before. It would be better if they had never known the way to righteousness than to know it and then reject the command they were given to live a holy life.”
