Christians and Bumper Stickers

Okay, I’ve seen you out there on the interstates and highways! Your “Honk if you love Jesus” bumper sticker is proudly displayed as you cut people off while you change lanes and zip in and out of traffic. Hopefully you have the church down the street’s decal in your back window and not mine as you flip off the angry driver you cut off when he honks at you and gets on your tailgate. I doubt the guy was honking at you because he loves Jesus or you at that moment!

I get it as much as anybody since I live and work in the greater Los Angeles area. Traffic can be frustrating, enraging, mind-numbing, and exhausting all at the same time. It affects Christians and non-believers just the same, but we should’t react the same way, or at least not display your emotions to those around you. Especially if you have anything on your car that identifies you as a Christian. Just do like me, commute incognito and blend in with the rest of the jerks!

Seriously, we represent Christ and our churches when we display decals and bumper stickers. It really bothers me when I see a Christian destroying their testimony in the way he or she drives on the freeway. I know your pastor would hate to see the whole congregation judged by your actions. It happens! If you’re going to display your faith, then demonstrate it when you drive. Sometimes we forget about that when we’re headed down the road and feeling the weariness or frustration of our commute.

Always be an example for Christ and his body. Well, it’s time for me to post this, hit the road, and practice what I just preached. Pray for me!

Titus 2:7 (NLT) - “And you yourself must be an example to them by doing good works of every kind. Let everything you do reflect the integrity and seriousness of your teaching.”
