Well, that’s an easy question to answer! Duh! We all think we are the favorite, or at least we love to joke about it with our siblings. Or we go the opposite route, which was made famous on the old ‘60’s variety show The Smothers Brothers… “Mom always liked you best!” In reality, a parent can favor the behavior of one child over another, but loving one over another is a different story. Each child is unique and holds a special place in a parent’s heart, but love for each one runs equally deep.
Three awesome children were born into our family… two girls and one boy. They have very few traits in common other than a love for God and family and all that entails. They have different personalities, likes and dislikes, gifts and talents, etc. They are a blended mixture of their parents, so we share some commonalities in traits, but not all. Do we have a favorite child? Absolutely not!
I love doing certain activities with each one individually, depending on what the activity is, but I mostly love anything that involves all three of them. I love them so deeply and I miss having them all in one place. Add my grandchildren to the mix, and it rips my heart apart even more to be separated geographically from them. And, yes, I miss my sons-in-law, too! I have to balance them taking my daughters away from me with giving me those awesome grandchildren.
So, even though I am my parents’ favorite son (I had to throw that in there), I do not have a favorite child or grandchild. I suppose I can tease, as always, and say I have a favorite son and favorite grandson (since I only have one of those).
