I touched on this subject in a blog a few years ago. I need a constant reminder to be myself. Oscar Wilde said, “Be yourself; everyone else is taken.” The very wise Dr. Seuss said, “Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.” I have tried to be someone else. I can testify that it does not work!
Peer pressure is a strong force and very real, especially when we are young and trying to figure out who we are and where we fit in. That often leads us into trying to be someone other than who we were meant to be. I have caught myself, even now, being an imitator of others instead of just being me. I can only look back, shake my head, and say, “What were you doing? Be yourself!”
God created you and made you unique from all others. No one is like you and it was by design. He loves you and has called you by name. He cares about you and your soul. Guard yourself against all evil and sin. You are God’s child and he longs to be with you. He loves you just the way you are. So be yourself!
Luke 9:25 (NLT) - And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but are yourself lost or destroyed?
