Grandparents

According to Wikipedia, “Grandparents, individually known as grandmother and grandfather, are the parents of a person's father or mother – paternal or maternal. Everyone has a maximum of four genetic grandparents, eight genetic great-grandparents, sixteen genetic great-great-grandparents, thirty-two genetic great-great-great-grandparents, sixty-four genetic great-great-great-great grandparents, etc.”

My wife and I are grandparents and we wouldn’t trade it for the world! Something crazy happens when parents turn into grandparents. Grandparents are there to help the child get into mischief they haven’t thought of yet and when we walk through the door discipline flies out the window. I love to joke that if I had known how great being a grandparent was I would’ve had the grandkids first!

We are sometimes guilty of giving unsolicited advice and counsel, but with age and life experience comes wisdom. I wish I could have known my grandfathers. One died when I was only six weeks old and the other when I was eight years old. I knew my two grandmothers well and I loved to sit and talk with them. The Bible tells us to give honor and respect to our elders which, of course, includes our parents. Spend time with them and enjoy the benefits of their wisdom and experience!

Proverbs 20:29 (NLT) - The glory of the young is their strength; the gray hair of experience is the splendor of the old.
