Tomorrow we celebrate the birth of our country. Today, July 3rd, I’m celebrating the birthday of my mother. Our country was born on the fourth July so she is a day older than our country. That’s the joke we loved to make with her. The Lord welcomed her home almost 13 years ago. She would be 92 years old today.
Mom was not perfect, but she was perfectly committed in pursuing the Lord and loving others. Her heart was devoted to God, her husband, and her sons. I witnessed her, on many nights when she couldn’t sleep, laying on the couch and reading her Bible. I haven’t counted them, but she had many Bibles and they were all highlighted and marked up with notes from cover to cover. I have no idea how many times she read through the Bible.
She has been the best example of living a life wholly devoted to the Lord. She was a prayer warrior, Scripture reader, and faithful in fellowship. Honor the Lord and honor your parents and it will go well for you. Today I give special honor to my mother. Happy birthday, Mom!
Ephesians 6:2-3 (NLT) - “Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise: If you honor your father and mother, “things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth.”
