Slowing Down in a Fast World

Technology has allowed, or forced, depending on your perspective, our lives to race along at break-neck speed. We can do almost everything faster, more accurately, and with greater efficiency each year than we could the previous year. Software designers around the globe are doing everything they can to shrink the size of chips and processors while increasing the capacity and power of the devices they control.

It has been a combination of wonderful, amazing, mind-blowing, and terrifying all rolled into one. While it gives us a lot of freedom in many ways, in other ways we have given up privacy and the freedom that comes with that. Information that people would only share with their closest friends is broadcast to a world full of strangers now on social media. As a society, we are hooked on technology and bound to its control of our daily lives.

It would be a very healthy idea to take a good portion of time each day to get away from technology and unplug from the world. Break out your old, dusty printed Bible and get alone with God and seek him. Find a place away from the television, your cell phone, tablet, and/or computer. Let him speak to you out of the quietness of solitude. You will be amazed at how wonderful it is to slow down and spend time with your Heavenly Father!

Mark 1:35 (NLT) - “Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray.”
