Just about everyone can quote President John F. Kennedy’s famous line in his 1961 inaugural address, “Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country.” It seems today that our society has reversed that challenge and people are asking what our country can do for us as we have become nation that demands that we be given everything.
We all too often treat God the same way. We take all our problems to him without offering him anything in return, expecting that he should answer our prayers or complaints before we heed his Word or obey his commandments. Instead, we should come to the Lord, first, with a thankful heart and give him praise for all that he has done for us, seeking his will and direction in our lives. Lastly, we should make our prayers and petitions known to him. He loves us and wants to take our burdens away and answer our prayers.
Imagine our nation filled once again with people that ask what they can do for their country, instead of what their country can do for them. Imagine further, this same great nation, filled with people on their knees asking what they can do for God, who always has and always will do great and mighty things for them!
Psalms 37:23 (NLT) - “The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.”
