In yesterday’s blog, I cited 2 Timothy 2:21 (NLT): “If you keep yourself pure, you will be a special utensil for honorable use. Your life will be clean, and you will be ready for the Master to use you for every good work.” I was asked today if I feel more or less challenged in staying pure as society moves along. That’s a great question! The short answer is… more.
Rapidly expanding technological advances has taken porn, for example, from restricted shelves in a seedy bookstore to a mouse-click on your home computer. Societal acceptance of certain dress codes both on television and in real life has migrated from modesty to maximum exposure of flesh. “Bedroom” scenes on television have morphed from married couples, wearing pajamas and sleeping in twin beds, to adulterous couples, in the nude, sleeping in bed together.
So, society has moved along while Jesus Christ stays the same. There is nothing in the Bible that makes allowances for technological advances to modify His commands. As technology has improved our creature comforts, safety, and ability to do many wonderful things, it has certainly made it a greater challenge to stay pure. The same technology that enhances our access to impure things will also grant us access to pure things. I have a Bible app on my phone and I can quickly access numerous translations. I can do searches to find certain scriptures or access many other features. There are unlimited positive uses of technology today. Accept the challenge to stay pure!
